Artificial Insemination
The origin of artificial insemination is shown to be used on horses and was then subsequently used on livestock. It was certainly successful and is now a method of breeding that has been growing in popularity. It is still not as widely accepted in the horse industry as it is in the livestock industry, but is starting to be more prevalent. There are certainly many benefits to using artificial insemination among horses and many people are starting to realize its full potential.
For starters, if people wanted to breed their mare with someones stallion, the stallion had to be moved to the mare and not only did the mare’s owner have to rent the stallion, but also pay for its care. If the stallion has to be shipped out of the country, then a month of quarantine is required. This is just not feasible for many people. Using artificial insemination helps to remove the requirement of the stallion being present for the breeding process.
